Week 14: "Vietnam War, Jungle Life"
We have all heard about the Vietnam War before in our lifetime. That may have been from grandparents or uncles, by old history teaches, or even by movies like Forest Gump. Well the Vietnam War was another war just any other situation that involved Americans at the time, they had nothing to do with it at all. This was had killed a lot of people from both sides, and was fought in Vietnam in the Vietnam jungles which gave them a lot of advantages.
The United States did not want any communist countries going on in the world. In Vietnam the country was split into to areas, just like how the United States were split during the civil war between the North and South. Well, in Vietnam it was split into North Vietnam and South Vietnam with the North Vietnam having the communist laws and power, while the South wanted to be free from that kind of Government. The United States stepped in to help the South Vietnam and a lot of casualties occurred during this. This was a war that happen for 20 1955-1975 years and there were 2 different presidents. President Johnson was the first one, and President Nixon was the second.
The war was going pretty causal with Americans helping and controlling the situation. But the US wanted to escalate the war and started sending airstrikes over jungles and other areas around the Vietnamese. The US airstrikes killed 536,000 soldiers, and this put the North Vietnam on edge. They started groups like the Viet Cong to be almost like the Seal Teams that the US armies have. Still overall our armies were to powerful, and over the period of this war the US killed over 2 million Vietnam soldiers while losing 58,000 lives and 350,000 causalities. This proved our army to be superior and has been superior every since and continues to grow stronger.
