Week 12 Reflection: "1950s Americas"

In this weeks reflection we will focus on the United States of America right after World War 2, and how they rebuilt, created new things, and had a new focus. This era was the beginning of the Suburbs and the ending to Urban era that were mostly populated by whites at the time. The Urban areas were still up and running, but they had an increase in poor non-white humans that were eventually flooded into the cities. We were getting back around to when the whites were living very poorly in the cities, and now they expanded and other ethnicity  moved in. During this time while the Suburbs were being created, many highways and vehicles had to be created for people to move.

While people were moving out into the suburbs this caused a massive increase in the highways in America, which was conducted by President Dwight Eisenhower. This was a massive project as before the roads were built to take a 72 hour trip today took approximately 62 days to travel which is ridiculously.  The president the highways to be none stop driving, which is why there are so many bridges above highways. If we did not have the bridges there would be multiple stops across america causing no progress. Also, later one we will learn that highways were built wider so that aircraft have a place to land if another World War was to return or the airports were shut down.

Then we get into the Sunbelt which the highways help create leading more Americans out to places like California or Florida. What is one interesting fact about the Sun Belt was how part of the south is what it is today. After multiple wars even since the civil war, the south has been very poor. The Sun Belt allowed for more people to get around, and a major group of people that moved south was Military people. With them in the south the government funded more money, and this how a lot of military bases were built in the south and are still here today.

  1. Read your reflection, and this was well written. I agree on what the Americas experience because they were trying to change the outcome of things but they soon started to figure things out.

  4. Great job Braxton! Your post was entertaining and I absolutely was drawn to your whole reflection. You do an excellent job of writing your ideas out and this was communicated precisely and you made sure to capture everything that occurred in the 1950's as well all the possible information for this week. You made sure to inform me on what occurred in 1950's America with the Interstate Highway System as well as the Sunbelt out west.

  5. Hey this is very beautifully written. This was a very crucial time in my eyes to the united states it was time to expand. The highway helped us do that it helped us move troops move weapons and just let citizens get around faster. Just think about if they did not build them where we would be today, I could not even imagine. This also created a lot of jobs for people that were unemployed. This helped cities grow and become who they are today.

  8. Hey Braxton your blog post this week was very informative. I never thought to about why bridges were built before. Aside from that I always thought that highways were wide to avoid traffic, but it’s interesting to know that it’s because the US is preparing for another world war.
